Institute of Noetic Sciences, Petaluma, CA. April 16-18, 2010
Further information and registration
With his characteristic blend of physics, psychology, philosophy and mysticism, Peter Russell articulates a new worldview that bridges both science and spirit. The key is the nature of consciousness. Despite the success of modern science in so many areas, the very existence of consciousness remains an anomaly.
In this workshop, Peter will share his latest thinking on why consciousness is a fundamental quality of the cosmos. Many have claimed this from spiritual and metaphysical perspectives; what makes Peter's model unique is that he arrives at this conclusion using contemporary physics and psychology.
The key question is no longer how consciousness emerges from matter, but how does the experience of matter arise in consciousness? That is answered not through the physical sciences, but through the inner science of self-observation. This is the path that many mystics and spiritual adepts have taken. Their meditations have revealed how everything we know and experience is a form arising in awareness. Even the sense of self turns out to be a mental construct.
During this workshop, Peter will show how we can realize these profound truths for ourselves by allowing our minds to fully relax and settle into silence. The key to clear meditation is absolute effortlessness; we simply need to let go of the various thoughts that keep our minds busy and tense. The beauty of this approach is that nothing needs to be changed or eliminated. It is simply surrendering to the fullness of the present moment. When we do, we discover for ourselves the essence of our own consciousness.
The weekend will consist of talks, group discussions, self-reflection, and guided mediations . Peter will also show how we can use our inner knowing to guide us during meditation, so that we can release more easily into our true nature.
